DOGSLEDDING EXPEDITIONS IN THE ARCTIC 2020
Dogsled experience is not essential, but some winter, expedition or endurance experience is advised, as is a good level of fitness, a robust personality and of course a love of dogs and adventure.
There are 3 different Expeditions in 2020. These are extreme weather, actually exploring, unsupported, hands-on, challenging, real Expeditions with a mission, Expedition objectives, a climate research element and Media coverage.
Organised by Mel Andrews with experience from a decade of similar solo Expeditions, a multitude of Outdoor Qualifications and many Diplomas from finishing Europe’s most extreme, long distance Dogsled Races. Mel has designed these Expeditions for Adventurers wanting more than a "hut to hut" multi-day tourist trip or Safari.
Following instruction & training, each team member drives a loaded sled and 5-7 of Mel's racing sleddogs, cares for their dogs throughout the Expedition (under guidance) and is a full team member, helping out with camp set up and daily tasks, navigation, day-to-day planning, research data gathering and achieving the Team’s Goals!
These are sponsored and subsidised Expedition’s, however Team members do pay towards the cost of their place. Anyone wishing to raise personal sponsorship or do the Expedition for a Charity will be supported and helped as much as possible. There is Media coverage organised for each Expedition, so please only apply if you are happy to be filmed, photographed and interviewed.
Sleds, Dogs and all Dog & Camp gear is provided. Personal Winter Gear, Clothing, Boots & Sleeping bags are available to borrow or purchase at Basecamp.
Team member place cost includes: all meals, accommodation, transfers, training, dog team, camp gear, fuel, location fees and emergency extraction, during training and the Expedition, flight advice and a full Expedition pack with kit list, in depth Expedition details and personal preparation tips. Not included: Flights, Alcohol, Candy, personal travel insurance and personal clothing/gear.
